About the approach

Coaching, mentoring and consulting

Coaching

When I coach, I ask questions, reflect what I notice and challenge contradictions or assumptions. I help you examine your own options, decisions and responses. I do not tell you which answer to choose or present my preferred answer as your conclusion.

Coaching is useful when the work involves questions, decisions, confidence, avoidance, competing priorities, difficult conversations or a repeated way of responding.

Mentoring

When I mentor, I offer recommendations, criteria, examples and relevant experience. In marketing work, this may mean reviewing an audience, message, funnel, campaign, brief, report or process and explaining what I would examine and why.

Mentoring is useful when reflection needs to be combined with practical recommendations from my 20 years’ experience in marketing.

Consulting

When I consult, I analyse an agreed problem and contribute directly to a recommendation, structure, template or other defined deliverable. The scope, responsibilities and output are agreed together, in advance.

A combined process

A client may need all three at different moments. I make the shift clear so that you know whether I am helping you find your answer, offering a recommendation based on experience or contributing directly to a piece of work.
